Lauren Hirschhorn-Tieu MS, RD (she/her)
Hello and welcome! I’m Lauren, a non-diet HAES aligned registered dietitian and owner of Note to Self Nutrition LLC. I live in Colorado with my husband and 4.5 year old golden retriever. I am a homebody at heart and am slowly beginning to accept that about myself instead of trying to fight against it. You will often find me on my couch cuddling my dog while watching reruns of Law and Order SVU, Dateline, or some random documentary about who knows what.
I began my dietitian career in the clinical part of the field focusing my time in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. This experience provided me with a medical foundation and understanding of the body as a whole, as well as the powerful systems at play within our medical field. I bring this experience into my current work by understanding the complexities of both the body and the systems of the world. Finding a dietitian that understands medical conditions such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and hormonal imbalances and is also HAES® aligned can feel like finding a needle in a haystack. I am proud to be able to help fill this gap in the field.
I have my own history of struggles with nutrition and my body which has made me gentle in my approach to nutrition therapy. I understand the grief process of a changing body and the overwhelming desire to fit a societal ideal. I also acknowledge that I only have my own lived experience as a guide; and that I have many privileges that are not afforded to others. I have learned much more through my work with clients of all genders, ages, and body types than I ever could have based upon my own experience.
My goal as a clinician is to help my clients return to their authentic selves before life and the messiness of diet culture got in the way. The young kid who loved ice cream sundaes and got them smeared all over their face at the beach; or the little toddler running around the house with their belly sticking out without a care in the world. We often think that we lose parts of ourselves as we grow and life takes hold, but I have a strong belief that those parts are still there waiting to be restored and cared for.
